Explosive Pivots & Eliminated Dips: Breaking Down Brayton Robinson’s Progress

Explosive Pivots & Eliminated Dips: Breaking Down Brayton Robinson’s Progress

by | Mar 3, 2026 | QB Form Breakdowns

In the world of quarterback development, “good enough” is the enemy of elite. Today, we’re back in the film room for a quarterback performance improvement session featuring Brayton Robinson. Brayton is heading into his sophomore year, and while his growth has been impressive, we are refining the fine margins that separate a varsity starter from an NFL quarterback preparation prospect.

At QB Fleet, we don’t just look at the result of the throw; we look at the quarterback mechanics training that fuels it. From our home base in Joplin to the entire four states area, we are building quarterbacks who understand the “why” behind every movement.

The Foundation: Transitioning from a Step to a Pivot

Footwork is the engine of the throw. In this film breakdown for quarterbacks, we took a close look at Brayton’s lower half.

  • The Positive: Brayton does a great job maintaining a closed-off, staggered stance—a staple of our private quarterback coaching.
  • The Critique: To unlock true power, we need more drive off the back leg.
  • The Adjustment: We are moving away from a traditional “step” and toward an explosive pivot. This allows for a more immediate transfer of energy from the ground up, a key focus in our high school quarterback coaching.

Upper Body Efficiency: Killing the Ball Dip

One of the most critical elements of youth quarterback training is shortening the release. We noticed a significant “ball dip” where the football drops toward the waist before the upward arc.

  • The Challenge: A long release gives defensive backs time to react.
  • The Fix: We are working on keeping the left hand on the ball longer and maintaining a higher carriage. By eliminating that dip, we make the delivery more compact and harder to read.

The Path Forward: QB Character Development

Brayton has come a long way, but as we say at QB Fleet, “the work is never finished.” Whether it’s Missouri quarterback coach sessions or quarterback clinics in Kansas and Arkansas, our goal is quarterback mentorship that extends beyond the field. We focus on football leadership skills and faith based quarterback training to ensure these young men are prepared for life.

Video Transcript:
Want to start at is pretty much his feet. So he does a pretty good job with rotation.
He does a good job of keeping his foot pretty closed off. That kind of like that staggered
kind of stance I really coach up a lot of my guys on. I would like to see him drive more
off that back leg. I can tell that he has a lot of weight on the inside of his front
foot or back foot. I'm sorry. And he's getting to his target. I would like to see more of
a explosive kind of pivot instead of a step. Looking at his upper body right here, slowing
it down a little bit, looking at his upper body, obviously a little bit of a ball dip.
We don't want that big of a dip because we don't want our release to be super long. I understand
the game has changed quite a bit, but this ball dipping down here by his waist is something
that we are currently working on and keeping that left hand on the ball as long as it is,
it's something that needs to be addressed. So look at his front side, front side stays pretty stable. So pretty proud about that.
So I do think that he's came a long way. He's a sophomore. He will be a sophomore next year. So we'll see how he progresses. So other than that, if you guys want more critique videos like this, make sure you follow me. If you want to send me your own personal video, I'd gladly look at it. Thank you. You guys take it easy.
Thank you.
